Last weekend was CVCA’s homecoming weekend. On Friday, Mer and I went to the alumni tent (since Mer is an alum), where we chatted with CVCA folks and ate some simple but good food. The biggest downside was the weather – it was only in the 50s and was sporadically raining. So, it was cold and even a little wet, even in the tent.
Mer joined me for my traditional cheering-on-the-band before the game, and on this Friday, we were even joined by three students who wanted to cheer too, so that was fun. After the band got on the field, Mer and I went into the stands, where a couple of former students found us. We watched the homecoming court be introduced, which was fun since several of the guys are in my Connections group or are students I know well. The football game started after the court was introduced, but the rain picked up. I’m afraid Mer and I bailed on the game before the end of the first quarter – it was just too cool and too wet; we were not having much fun. The good news is that CVCA went on to win the game, so that should have made the few alums who stayed happy.
Saturday morning, I took Mer to Eddy’s Deli, the restaurant to which the guys had introduced me on Thursday. Eddy’s, like all good diners, serves breakfast all day, so I was pretty sure the food would be good. It was, and Mer liked the place, so we should be going back.
Mer had a bridal shower to go to in the afternoon, and then she went to CVCA to get her hair and nails done by volunteers who were raising funds for a missionary cause. So, I puttered around home. In the evening, Mer and I went to the homecoming banquet at Todaro’s Party Center. We got to sit at a faculty-only table, so we had a very good time laughing with our colleagues. The students looked great, and the food was excellent, including a candy bar and pizza for an appetizer. That was a great idea. There was a short time of entertainment that was provided by a balloon artist who did a great job of getting lots of students involved, but had some trouble keeping the attention of all the students, since he went on for about thirty minutes. After he finished up, the evening wrapped up with a series of line dances like the Chicken Dance, the Macarena, and such. It was fun to see the students get into it, and Mer and I joined in about half the dances until we decided to leave at about 9:45 (the evening ended at 10:00).
It was a nice evening, and Mer looked great.
