Thursday was my 37th birthday, but Mer and I are celebrating it today (more on that later). While Mer is out procuring victuals for the week, I was playing sports games on the Wii. I was poking around in the special features section and I found a Wii age rating section. I figured I would do really well – I’m a pro in tennis and golf, and nearly pro in baseball and bowling. So, I tried it. The first test was hitting home runs, where the pitcher serves up fat 65 mph balls across the plate. Out of ten attempts, I hit four home runs – I was swinging way too early. I’m so used to 85 mph fastballs, I can’t wait for slow pitches anymore. Erg! The next test was for me to hit various pin arrangements in bowling. For some reason, the ball kept breaking hard to the left. I got to where I was concentrating on nothing else other than not moving my wrist, and the ball still broke left. Erg! The final test was hitting tennis balls and keeping them on the court. I did pretty well at that one – the only time I had trouble was when I was watching the ball I just hit and the new ball came at me while I was not paying attention. I think I got about 30 out of 40 balls in the court. The final result on my happy-birthday weekend? The Wii rated me as a 42-year old. Happy birthdays to me!
Old man!
Old man with noffin’ to do but play with his Wii on his (observed) bday!
On MY observed b-day, I’ve so far slept poorly (stupid hot apartment, stupid cats), and gone to the gym where I poured out sweat for over an hour. Later: high tea (I’m not joking – mmmm, clotted cream!), cake, and very possibly a movie.
We’re going to go see Beowulf at the $1.00 theater!
Happy birthday, and Gratuleren if you want it in Norwegian!
I, for one, will admit to being grateful that you were born.

The Wii Fit game suite had a meditation mode. You sit on the Wii-cushion and stare at a flickering candle. If you move, the candle goes out.
“Out, out brief candle.” Now THERE’s a happy thought to think on a birthday!
