Over the last month I was struggling with injuries and sickness, during which time I was not able to train at full level. Finally, this morning I was feeling pretty good (with my new spiffy shoes), so I got to 9.5 mph for 25 minutes on the treadmill. Yeah! Now I get to train my sights on 10 mph. I want to get to the speed as quickly as I can, even if I need to go for a few minutes less. Then, once (if) I get to 10 mph, I’ll add any lost time back on. I think that will take me 5-6 weeks to get there, if I can stay healthy.
Seems those spiffy new shoes were custom-made for kickin’ someone’s butt…
Maybe so, but I still have a ways to go before I can get a road time below your PR.
Yes. The PR I set 7 years ago. When we were 30.
My personal best, btw, of 19:26 for a 5k translates as 9.67 mph. I rather think you could beat that right now if you can run 9.5 mph for 25 minutes. If I ran a race right now, I think I’d be a little over 9 mph, but not by much. The race I ran last April (with no training) was run at 8.7 mph.
How sad that my 8 years of being able to gloat will soon come to an end.
Not necessarily so – last year I got up to 9.8 mph for 20 minutes on the treadmill, and I had one race of 20:03 and one race of 19:35. I’m pretty sure that I need to get to 10 mph (or even higher) to break 19:00 in a real road race.
